Events & news at the Parkhotel Margna

In the summer of 2023, we celebrated the 250th birthday of Johann (Jean) Josty (1773-1826), the founder of today's Parkhotel Margna.

In the NZZ Hotel Rating, the Parkhotel Margna was ranked 2nd in the category of historic hotels. And in the Karl-Wild-Hotelrating (The 125 best hotels in Switzerland) of the SonntagsZeitung, the Parkhotel Margna were able to move up from 7th to 6th place in the category of Nice-Price holiday hotels. We are delighted about these awards and would like to thank our staff, the owners, the juries and of course our guests very much.

Together with Weber Verlag AG, the journalist Hans R. Amrein and other authors, we have published a richly illustrated book about our beloved Parkhotel Margna. This year again, the SonntagsZeitung published the big summer hotel rating with the 125 best hotels in Switzerland. We are proud to announce that the Parkhotel Margna was ranked 7th among the 35 best nice-price holiday hotels. In addition, the Margna host couple Luzi and Simona Seiler were awarded «Rising Star of the Year». We are very happy!

Great joy and honour: We won the overall rating of the 50 best four-star hotels and thus also the category of the best four-star mountain and country hotels. A very big thank you to the NZZ jury, the Margna owners, all Margna employees and our guests.

We are in the final spurt towards the reopening on 17 December 2021. The major construction sites of the staircase and the arch cellar are almost complete. The first bottles are being put away in the wine cellar. The new rooms under the roof already convey a promising ambience. A lot is also happening in the restaurants and in the outdoor area.

The driveway and the forecourt are being laid with paving stones, the lift in the manor house has been installed and work is underway on the interior fittings in the arch cellar. In addition, the tennis court and the golf course have been newly built.

Many kilometres of pipes, tons of historical slabs and a new shaft, which is ready for occupation by the new elevator – the construction site is in full swing, before the Parkhotel Margna reopens its doors with even more glamour on 17th of December 2021.

Due to unexpected delays the Parkhotel Margna cannot be opened for the summer season 2021.

The owners and the directors of the Parkhotel Margna deeply regret that this unexpected decision has become necessary.

The reopening of the fully renewed hotel will be on the 17th of December 2021.

And so it continues: the renovation of the roof on the central building is making progress. Next winter, the new roof will enable us to reduce our energy consumption. Meanwhile, in the bar and in the historic lounge, the walls are being plastered with lime as they were in the past and replacement parquet is being manufactured according to the original design so that it gleams as it did in times past.

There is still quite a lot to do here, but we are already looking forward to the start of the season on 18 December.

Surrounded by snow-capped mountains and a chocolate-box landscape, the construction of the Margna underground car park is in full swing. The renovation of the roof is also taking shape and the stair treads have been replaced at the main entrance. We are restoring the hotel to its former glory! We look forward to placing more emphasis on the history of this 19th-century patrician villa.

There's still a lot of excitement on the construction front... Stay tuned!

Work is progressing well thanks to the many hardworking people involved. 70 new underground parking spaces are currently being provided, plus seven electric charging stations, a ski and waxing room and a bike room. The renovation of the roof is moving to the next stage, floor coverings are being restored to their former glory, and work is also being done on the entrance area.

You won't believe what the future holds for this former confectioner's house, built in 1817! We can hardly wait!

The Margna is positively humming! Workers and craftsmen are hard at it and diggers are running non-stop.

As one of many aspects of the renovation, the cellar vault has been exposed in the Murütsch restaurant. Here, in particular, you can feel the history of our 1817 patrician villa.

And it is this very history, this grandeur and this charm that are at the centre of our construction projects and renovations.
